  • Ability to conduct a touch of two courses in any of these methods

  • The achievement of ringing one peal or having rung two quarter peals on an inside bell in any two of the four standard methods.

The attainment of this certificate will be marked by an asterisk in the Annual Report. The award will be made at the discretion of the Branch Committee.

Training and Education Group

Who We Are

The Training and Education Group is led by the LACR Training & Education Officer and consists of one member from each branch of the association.

Our General Plan

In the past, the LACR has run two training days per year. In coming years, we plan to intensify this programme and integrate it with local initiatives. Also, we plan to widen the range of branches and venues where training events can be presented.

Our Aims

We aim to provide a programme of training events which will :

  • meet the needs of the Association : especially those of its newer, developing members
  • complement training initiatives developing at branch level
  • encourage ringing ambitions
  • promote the development of proficiency

Continuity of learning between events

In future we will plan to hold three Association training days per year : in early spring (March), summer and late autumn (October). The March training day will be focused on a basic level of attainment. Each subsequent training day will be focused on the next logical development step after the last. Those who attend a first event will be encouraged to come to the next and following events.

Continuity of learning can be enhanced if each successive training day can be followed by local consolidation events, organised by branches. Such events will allow local colleagues to help trainees to rehearse, reinforce and embed the competencies developed at the training day.

Next Steps

This group will review its aims and approach periodically in the light of unfolding experience. This note will be updated at intervals.

SPRING, 2024 TRAINING DAY

GOOSNARGH: Saturday, 13th. April.

IMPROVING YOUR ROPESIGHT

AIM OF THE DAY:

Learn to discriminate between the jumble of moving ropes. Rather than worry, 'Who do I follow', come and learn, 'When shall I pull' . Develop a rhythm of pulling. Coordinate pulling with looking. Learn where to look and recognise patterns as you shift attention from one rope to the next. Notice cues given by other ringers. Above all, use ropesight to confirm the decision to pull you have already made by virtue of ringing by rhythm and counting places.

CALL FOR HELPERS

'Helpers', for want of a better term, are experienced ringers, kind enough to attend training days and support the progress of those who are attending to learn.

WE ALWAYS NEED A LOT OF HELPERS to assist even a small number of learners. The ideal arrangement is "one learner per touch". If you have gained a proficiency certificate, please be generous with your time and come along.to support a less experienced ringer. Also, please encourage members of your branch or local band to attend as learners.

PLAN FOR THE DAY: LEARNERS AND HELPERS
