When we reassemble, we will be concerned for our safety in each others’ company and in the tower, where hygiene and social distancing can be problematic. Also, we will need our bells and belfries to have recovered from months of forced neglect so that ringing can recommence without hindrance caused by disrepair.
In the meantime, the association needs to show how ringers can keep in touch with each other. Also we need to keep learners and newer members interested so that recent successes in recruitment are not lost.
Because it is impossible to provide ringing activities in the present situation, we are losing important opportunities to meet each other and practice ringing. Videoconferencing and simulator technologies offer the hope of socialising and ringing over the internet, provided we can all get used to using these technologies.
