John and Shirley Pilkington are leaving Lancashire and are moving on to pastures new.

John is an Honorary Vice-President of the Lancs Association and he and his wife Shirley are an inseparable team and have served the Association, the Blackburn Branch, their local Ribble towers and their local tower at Whalley for many years.

The Lancashire Association of Change Ringers wish to express their profound gratitude for all they have done in the service of ringing. He and his wife Shirley embody the spirit and joy of ringing together and they will be sorely missed by all.

The following statement was issued by Betty Ormrod, a fellow Vice-President and longstanding friend:

John Pilkington has been a member of the LACR since 1954. He has been in charge of ringing at Whalley Parish church for many years. He has been an active member of the Blackburn Branch and an LACR committee member for many years. John has always worked hard for his church, for the Blackburn Branch and for the Association. John, we thank you for all you have done for ringing in Lancashire. We wish you well as you leave Lancashire for Somerset – our loss is Somerset’s gain! - Betty Ormrod

Catherine Duckworth, a member of the Whalley ringers taught by John, offered this statement:

Shirley is alongside him in everything, in the tower for Sunday services, practice nights where they both together help out at other practice nights, she’s there organising food for events and so much more. He could not do all he does (and he does so much more than bellringing!) without Shirley working just as hard alongside him. At Whalley we will miss them so much and really wish them well in their new life near Paul and family.
